NOT ALL PIRANHA
Pre-internet real life in NYC was wild and undocumented. We hosted events and if 80 people showed up, we called it a success. Then bigger venues, bigger crowds.
September 10, 2001, as half of the performance art duo Spekes & Grogan, I launched a short-lived installation in a dilapidated art space on the Lower East Side. In the middle of the room we filled a vat with various species of piranha. There are more than 30.
A sign read:
NOT ALL PIRANHA
Some piranha are vegetarian. But which?
People were invited to stick their hands into the vat for $100.
None did.
